There is nothing for your office to purchase

No site licence, no seat count, no quote, no purchase order and no pilot agreement. Students sign up individually and free, exactly as they would for any consumer tool, so recommending Evanreads commits your office to nothing and costs your budget nothing.

No institutional agreement needed

You are not signing anything, and we are not asking for a meeting before you can evaluate it.

No student data flows to your office

A student's account is their own. We do not report usage back to a campus, and there is nothing for you to administer.

What it does

Everything below is available on the free plan. Nothing here is a trial that expires or a demo that degrades.

Line-by-line and paragraph reading

Text is revealed one line or one section at a time, with the current line held in a fixed reading position so the eye does not run ahead of comprehension.

OpenDyslexic and adjustable spacing

A weighted-bottom typeface plus independent controls for type size, line height and letter spacing.

Text-to-speech

Any passage can be read aloud with pause and stop controls. Nothing plays automatically. Uses the browser's own speech engine, so it needs no additional software on the student's machine.

OCR for scanned PDFs

A scanned or photographed PDF with no text layer is read with on-device OCR, which covers the course packets and older readings that defeat most tools.

Retention quizzes

Short retrieval-practice questions generated from what the student just read, so comprehension is checked rather than assumed.

Bionic reading

Bolds the leading portion of each word as a fixation anchor. Offered as a preference, not as an evidence-backed claim — controlled studies are mixed.

Full keyboard operation

The reader and every dialog can be driven entirely from the keyboard.

Pace tracking and progress

Reading speed is measured rather than estimated, which gives a student a realistic time-to-finish instead of an intimidating page count.

Accessibility and conformance

Evanreads is built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and is evaluated against Section 508 and EN 301 549. We publish where it does not yet fully conform rather than leaving you to find out during an evaluation.

Public accessibility statement

A permanent, linkable page covering conformance, features and known limitations — the "web link to your accessibility statement" that HECVAT ITAC-05 asks for.

VPAT / ACR published, not gated

The completed VPAT (2.5 Rev WCAG) is a direct download on this page — no form, no email, no waiting. Section 508 and EN 301 549 are covered criterion by criterion. Need an ACR countersigned for a specific procurement? Email hello@evanreads.ai.

Two documented partial supports

Reflow (1.4.10) and non-text contrast (1.4.11) are recorded as Partially Supports, alongside a homepage film that has captions and a transcript but no audio description. None of them affect the reading application itself.

A documented route for reporting problems

Accessibility problems go to hello@evanreads.ai and are answered by a person — a general feedback widget explicitly does not satisfy ITAC-09, so there is a real address.
